hi Synthia. I hope you are doing well and have a nice Birthday. Miss your posts. Aug. 24, 2006
Super Bowl weekend is finally here! That means one thing Super Bowl parties, whether they be of the at home variety or the outdoor tailgate variety. Now understand that I'm just learning some of the nuances of football. I do,however, leave the actual knowledge to the football masters out there. I will do one thing, and that's to offer a few little recipes for Super Bowl weekend. Today I will be posting my recipe for a hamburger. Not just any hamburger mind you,but the wonderful Pizza Burger.

Pizza Burger
The hamburger
I don't know how many of your football buddies your going to have over but it's safe to assume that we can begin with:
at least 2 pounds of lean ground chuck
1 tsp of oregano or italian seasoning
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp of liquid smoke flavoring ( measure carefully, using too much can make it taste accrid)
1 packet of sazon goya (without annato) or if you don't have access to this use 1 tsp of accent
The sauce
You can either do this the quick way by using 1 jar of spaghetti sauce (your choice of flavor)
or
the more elaborate way:
2 cans of tomato sauce
1 small can of tomato paste
1 tsp of italian seaoning
1 tsp of garlic powder
1/2 tsp. black pepper
* if the tomatoes are too tart or acidic you may add a little sugar to taste - just enough to cut the acidity. you may also add any of these seasonings to taste if you so desire.
You'll also need the following:
buns
leaves of lettuce
slices of mozzarella or smoked provolone cheese
a slice of tomato if you desire ( although with the tomato sauce I forwent the tomato slice)
Let's start cooking
Mix your tomato sauce ingredients together in a sauce pan an set over low heat to be warming while you work on the burgers.
First mix your meat and seasonings together. and form into patties
fry your patties in a skillet or griddle over meduim -medium high heat until meat reaches desired doneness internal temp should be at 160 deg. F or 72 deg C.
* as each stove top is different you may want to adjust your heat if you find that the burgers are burning or cooking too slow.
you can add your cheese once the burger is done while it is yet in the skillet.
If you so desire, you can toast your bun.
Some assembly required:
This is the easy part. Place your cheese coated burger on the bottom half of your bun. Now drop the desired amount of tomato sauce mixture on top of the cheese.
On the top half of your bun :
place the lettuce. Then if you are using tomato slices, place your tomato slice on the lettuce.
Sides:
Dill pickle slices cut lengthwise or round.
French fries
Onion rings.
Now enjoy!
The next time that we meet, we will work on Chili Cheese Fries.
